EPF E-Passbook – You can now check your EPF balance online
What is EPF Passbook?
Just like your bank accounts used to have physical passbooks, so do your Employee Provident Fund or EPF account. The PF Passbook is a record containing details of transactions and the balance in your PF account. If you are a member of the Employee Provident Fund Organisation or EPFO, then you have an EPF passbook.
What is an EPF E-passbook?
EPFO now gives its members an option to access the physical PF passbook online. The EPF e passbook has records of transactions that have been reconciled at the EPFO field offices and can be used as an EPF Passbook check.
E-Passbook facility is not available to the Exempted Establishments Members / Settled Members / InOperative Members of EPFO. It is also not available to those members whose employers have failed to submit the return and upload the e-Challan.
How to create an EPF E-Passbook?
To access your EPF passbook online or to have an E-Passbook, you need to register yourself on the Unified Member Portal of EPFO website. To register for the E-passbook, you need to go to the Unified Account Number (UAN) member E-Sewa page of the EPFO website, https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/no-auth/uanActivation/activationForm?_HDIV_STATE_=13-7-104937D64C4044C456C58AC9DCCC8706 and follow the steps.
How to register for E-Passbook?
To register for the E-passbook keep your mobile phone, PAN card or Aaadhar Card handy. Once you complete and submit the form, you will receive the PIN to activate your UAN via SMS to your mobile phone. On activation, you will receive the UAN and your password on your mobile phone.
Please log in to your PF UAN passbook account to see if the details are properly recorded. Sometimes errors in name or PAN number can occur while the details are provided by your employer to the EPFO. After logging in, you can change the password, update your Aaadhaar or PAN or Bank account details, change the registered mobile phone number, complete the KYC formalities and most importantly create online nomination for your PF account.
With the UAN number in your hand, you are now ready to access your E-passbook.
How to access and use the E-passbook?
The passbook will be available after 6 Hours of your UAN registration and activation. To access the EPF account passbook go to the EPFO homepage and select the e-Passbook option. You may even use the https://passbook.epfindia.gov.in/MemberPassBook/Login.jsp link to log in.
You can now view and download all the transactions made in your account from the year in which the annual accounts were updated for the employer. You can also add your old EPF accounts. However, you will not be able to see settled or inoperative accounts. For downloading the e-passbook, you will have to specify the state and the PF office of that state.
