Everything you need to know about Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has been a popular scheme right from its inception. This scheme aims at giving greater benefits to households which are below the poverty line and cannot access clean fuel for cooking.

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana strives to give clean fuel to women who fall below the poverty line and use unclean fuels. These are replaced by LPG through the efforts of the PMUY scheme. The Indian Government is targeting the provision of LPG to more than 5 crore women who belong to families below the poverty line.

  • Lowering health issues from fossil fuel usage
  • Lowering respiratory diseases due to indoor pollution

Here’s how to apply for the scheme-

Before applying, one should meet the BPL card eligibility and other criteria. Here are the steps to be followed-

  • Applicants should obtain the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana form which is available across all LPG dealerships in the country
  • The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana online application facility is also available and the form is available at the PM Ujjwala Yojana site too
  • Fill up the form with information like your name, age, Aadhar Card number and bank account details
  • Necessary documents including the Ujjwala KYC form should be enclosed with the application
  • The type of cylinder needed will have to be specified
  • The filled up form and documents have to be submitted at the nearest LPG outlet

The eligibility criteria is as follows-

To find a place on the gas connection list for the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, you must meet the eligibility criteria which is as follows:

  • Applicants have to be women above the age of 18 and Indian citizens
  • Applicants should be members of BPL households
  • LPG connections must not be owned by anyone in the family
  • Household income should not exceed the threshold mentioned by the State Government & Union Territories
  • Applicant name should be in SECC-2011 data list and information in BPL database
  • Applicant should not already be a recipient for other similar Governmental schemes

KYC Application Forms are available in English and Hindi across all LPG outlets in India. Details required include the following:

  • Age, Name, Location, Address
  • Member details in household
  • PAHAL joining details
  • Bank account details including Aadhar Card details, IFSC code and branch
  • Equipment chosen
  • Ration Card Details

Other documents required include the following:

  • Utility Bill
  • Authorized BPL Certificate from Panchayat Pradhan/Municipality Chairman
  • Photo ID proof (Aadhar/Voter ID Card)
  • Passport size recent photo
  • Lease agreement
  • Driving license
  • Ration Card
  • Passport copy (if applicable)
  • House registration document
  • Flat allotment/possession letter
  • Self-declaration attested by Gazetted Officer
  • Bank statement
  • LIC policy

More information on the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

The scheme is being executed by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The budget allocated for FY2016-17 was Rs. 2, 000 crore. The scheme will be executed within 3 years with total budgetary allocation of Rs. 8, 000 crore. The money saved through the Give-it-up subsidy campaign will also be used for this purpose. Households which are eligible will get Rs. 1, 600 in the name of the female head and EMI facilities will also be provided.

The scheme has already been launched in several States such as Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar among others. Fuel will be available at affordable prices for families who live below the poverty line. 95.1 lakh LPG connections have already been provided throughout 11 Indian States under this scheme. Uttar Pradesh has received the highest number of connections (approximately 34 lakh cylinders) as per reports.
