Online and offline methods of PAN card application

PAN is a unique, 10-character alpha-numeric code, issued to all entities identifiable under the Indian Income Tax Act, 1961. This identity is issued by the Indian Income Tax Department, and it also serves as an important proof of identification. To make your PAN card application, you have two platforms: Online and Offline.

The online process for PAN Application

Complete your online PAN card application by following these simple steps:

  1. Visit the website
  2. Click on Services->PAN Card->Apply
  3. Fill up PAN form 49A
  4. Click on “Validation” followed by “Submit” button
  5. Verify the visible filled-in application form
  6. Make payment
  7. You may get a “Success” or a “Failure” as a result of this online payment attempt. Retry in case of failure.
  8. “Save” or take a print-out of the completed form visible on the screen through the “Print Form” option.
  9. Affix two (same) photographs of 3.5cms X 2.5cms size on the form.
  10. Sign at the three specified positions:
  • On the left-hand box, sign across the affixed photograph.
  • On the right-hand box, sign below the photo in the space provided.
  • On page 2 of the form, sign in the bottom right-hand box in the space provided
  1. Attach copies of the documents supporting as Proof of Identity, Proof of Address and Proof of Date of Birth strictly as provided in the form.
  2. Submit/dispatch this complete set of his/her application to the nearest UTIITSL address at any one of the addresses to complete your UTI PAN application.

Offline process for PAN Application


  1. Complete PAN card application form download from the NSDL or UTIISL websites or get a copy from a UTIISL agent.
  1. Fill the new PAN card application form
  2. Attach supporting documents (proof of identity, address and photographs)
  3. The form and documents will now need to be submitted to the NSDL office along with the processing fee.

Uses of your PAN

A PAN registration is compulsory:

  1. For a number of financial transactions such as
  1. Opening a bank account
  2. Receiving salary that’s taxable
  3. Professional fees
  4. Sale/purchase of high-value assets etc.
  1. As an Identity card as well to all the Indian citizens who are taxpayers in the country and outside it under the Central Board of Direct Taxes supervision.


  • Duration: The PAN card will be sent to the address mentioned in the form within 15-20 working days.
  • Cost: Applicants residing within the country need to pay a fee of Rs 110 and applicant outside need to pay Rs. 1020.


The PAN is unique to each individual or entity and is valid throughout India for the lifetime of the holder. The aim of the PAN is to prevent tax evasion by keeping track of monetary transactions by bringing a universal identification to all financial transactions.
