All kind of phone holders with SMS facility can get their passport status on their phone easily by sending a SMS “ppt <fileNo>” to 57272.
A file number is given after submitting a successful passport application.
Online passport status check
- Go to the PSP portal
- Now select ‘Track Your Application Status’.
Select from 3 different options:
- Application Status
- Diplomatic/Official Application Status
- RTI Status
Choose application status.
You need to key in your file number that contains 15 alphanumeric characters that is on your acknowledgement letter.
The last field is your date of birth. After a successful submission, you will move to the ‘Status Tracker’ page.
You can view the following details:
- Your file number
- Your first and last name
- The application submission date
- The passport current status
This information will tell you the stage of your passport application process also you can take necessary action if there is a delay.
Indian Passport Application Status Types
Your Indian passport status check is constantly updated when it moves through the entire application to delivery chain. While checking your online passport status check you may come across these stages indicating its progress through the system.
- Application submitted
- Application under review or under review with reason
- Police Verification initiated or pending
- Police Verification report submitted or under review or not clear
- Passport granted or printed or dispatched or returned undelivered
- PCC application forwarded or granted
You can take necessary actions, according to the status displayed. If your online passport tracking has gone through the entire process successfully, your passport will be granted. The RPO will print and dispatch the passport via speed Post. You can track the passport dispatch status on the India Post Portal or you can track your passport delivery status by going down to your nearest speed post office.
