All about passport Seva Kendra

The recent boom in the economy has seen a parallel increase in the demand for passports by the
residents of the country. In order to cater to this surge in demand the Ministry of External Affairs
(MEA) launched the Passport Seva Project (PSP) in May 2010. The Passport Seva Kendra came into
existence as the extended arms of the Passport Office. Passport Seva Kendra provide the front-end
passport services such as token issuance, screening of application for passport reissuance or new
passports.
The Passport Seva Kendra allows for a seamless and transparent process for passport delivery and
related services. The Passport Seva Kendra can provide passport services such as fresh
passport issue, reissue of passport or miscellaneous services such as PPC and background
verification for individuals. The process has been explained in detail below:

Fresh/ Reissue of passport

 Register and login on the Passport Seva Portal
 Download and fill the e-form for fresh or reissue of passport
 Validate and save the document. This will generate an XML file
 Upload this file and click on the ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ button to schedule an
appointment slot at Passport Seva Kendra
 After scheduling your appointment at the nearest PSK, make an online payment through
credit/debit card or net banking
 Take a print out of the receipt with the Application Reference Number (ARN) and visit the
Passport Seva Kendra on the day of the passport seva appointment.
 Remember to carry your ARN along with the original documents such as proof of birth, proof
of residence, proof of nationality, identification proof and photograph
 In case of a passport reissue, remember to carry the old passport along with the original
documents
Once the documents have been screened at PSK the individual applicants will be called for a security
check and verification followed by:
 Document and personal detail verification, scan, upload, photograph, fingerprints by Citizen
Service Executive
 Document verification by Verification Officer
 Passport Issuance approval by Granting officer

The applicant is given an acknowledgement letter at the end of this process with tracking details for
application status. The applicant can also track the mode of police verification (pre/post/no) through
the acknowledgement letter.
After the verification process the passport application moves from the Passport Seva Kendra to the
Passport Office(PO) for backend processing. The Passport Office then issues, prints and dispatches
passport via Indian Post through Speed Post. The process to dispatch the passport may take from 3
to 30 days depending on the type of police verification required. The applicant can track the status
of the passport application through passport seva tracking.
