What are The Different Types of Passport in India

You must be aware that a passport is not just a travel document, it also serves as a valid identity proof and is Issued under the Passports Act, 1967 by the Government. While at the airport you would have also noticed passports in different colors. Today we will focus on the different types of passport in India and their colors.

There are 3 Types of Passports in India:

  1. The Regular Indian Passport: The regular Passport issued for ordinary travel has a Navy Blue cover. Ordinary travel would include vacations and business trips. A type P passport, where the P stands for Personal.
  2. The Official Indian Passport: The official passport has a white cover and is issued to individuals representing the Indian government on official business. This is a type S passport, where the s stands for service.
  3. The Diplomatic Indian Passport: This is a Type D passport where the D is for diplomat it has a Maroon cover and is issued to top-ranking government officials and diplomatic couriers.
